Communication
You can leave a message on the classroom phone at (503) 636-5656 ext. 127. You can e-mail Sheryl anytime at Sheryl-cooper@comcast.net. If you’d like to talk to Sheryl after class, please wait until the other children have been dismissed. Evaluations are sent home in December and April. Conferences are in April, although one can be scheduled any time during the year.
There will be a weekly report sent home each weekend via e-mail. Please make sure we have your current e-mail address.
Arrivals
Our doors will open at 9:25 a.m. Please wait in the hallway until a teacher opens the door and is ready to greet the children. Make sure to sign your child in, and leave any notes in the spiral notebook on top of the cubbies.
Departures
We will open the doors for departures around 12:20. Please wait for your child in the hallway – we will send him/her out to you. Make sure to check cubbies and sign your child out. Children are not permitted to go up the stairs without an adult. Please be prompt when picking up your child – this saves many tears. Anything after 12:30 is considered late and will be subject to a late fee (see handbook). If you are stuck in traffic, leave a message on our classroom phone (see above).
Snacks
Mid-morning we will offer a time to eat a snack brought from home. We ask that this be one or two healthy items AND a small plastic cup (empty) that are placed in a zip-lock bag labeled with your child’s name. Do not pack cookies or sweets! No foods with peanuts or nuts will be allowed into the classroom. See separate sheet on peanut-free snack suggestions. Blue ice can be packed in bag and will be returned to your child’s cubby afterwards. We will return your child’s Zip-Lock bag in cubby to reuse the next time, if desired. We will provide water in pitchers that children can help themselves to.
Lunch Bunch
If your child is registered for Lunch Bunch, send a peanut/nut-free lunch in a labeled sack or lunch box, along with a drink. This is in addition to the morning snack and is packed separately. See separate list of approved peanut/nut-free lunch suggestions.
Sharing:
Beginning in October, we will send home a sharing box with one child each day. You will find the sharing box in your child’s cubby. Please help your child find something special to put in the box and return it the next day of class. This can be anything that is special to your child – a toy, photograph, something from nature, etc. Do not send weapons or violent toys of any kind. We ask that your child only bring something to share on his/her sharing day. All other personal belongings must be kept in the cubby.
Cubbies and Work:
Make sure to check your child’s cubby each day, but understand that there might not always be something in it. An empty cubby does not mean your child wasn’t busy. Many of our activities do not produce something that can be brought home in a cubby. Also, not all children are involved in each project, or it might be a project that takes multiple days to complete.
Note: In the past, some parents have added birthday treats in each child’s cubby. Because we are a peanut-aware facility, we ask that you do not distribute food/treats to the class via cubbies.
Birthdays:
Close to your child’s birthday, we will send home a note letting you know what day we’d like to celebrate. The note will give options if you’d like to bring treats and give you all the information. All birthday treats MUST be store-bought, in their original containers, and peanut/nut-free. All summer birthdays will be celebrated in May. Please do not put any food treats in cubbies. If you’d rather give stickers than food treats, that is fine.
Parent Helpers:
Beginning in January, once the children are settled and a routine has been established, parents can offer to help with a special activity on Friday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30. This is usually a cooking activity, but it also might be a special art project or craft for a special event. We will give out more information in January.
